Cleveland Denies Police Wrongdoing In Death Of Mentally Ill Woman

Anderson Family

The city of Cleveland denies two officers did anything wrong before a handcuffed, mentally ill woman died in custody last year. The statement is in response to a lawsuit filed by the family of 37-year-old Tanisha Anderson. The lawsuit says the officers failed to consider Anderson's underlying mental and physical problems when she panicked and tried to escape from the back seat of a cruiser. The family alleges one of the officers slammed her to the ground face first, put a knee in her back and handcuffed her.
