More Ohioans are expected to travel over this year's Memorial Day holiday period than in 2017.

AAA predicts a near record 41.5 million Americans, including 1.6 million Ohioans, will be traveling at least 50 miles from home. This is an increase of 4.8 percent from last year and marks the highest Memorial Day travel volume since 2005. Despite gas prices of nearly 3-dollars a gallon, Triple-A says a strong economy and growing consumer confidence are reasons for the travel increases. Ohio Department of Transportation spokesperson Amanda McFarland advises travelers to be patient and plan accordingly.

Triple-A predicts more than 90 percent of Ohio travelers will drive to their destinations, and nearly 89 thousand Ohioans will fly.
