Michael

Michael Jackson: “I believe music can change the world. Spread love, joy, and peace. That is what I want the world to feel... magic!”

Michael, the docudrama about Michael Jackson’s rise to international fame, is full of expectations: Will his nephew Jaafar Jackson, meet the hopes pf resurrecting the legend, and will the film be honest about the real dramas in his life. The former is a positive, for Jaafar looks and dances like MJ while the latter is disappointing because the film ends before the pedophilia allegations. The second part to come may address those issues.

This film gives satisfaction to those wishing to see MJ resurrected, as if with a catalogue of his greatest hits. The drama about his father Joe’s (Coleman Domingo) abuse of the 5 boys is as full as he is reprehensible, dominating the story with his unbridled desire to see his family rise to acclaim at almost any psychological cost.

When Michael finally fires his father, the result is Michael’s hair catching fire on the Pepsi commercial, almost as if proof of dad’s being demonic no matter when during MJ’s life.

The film Michael is a fine introduction to the glamorous life of Michael Jackson for those not born in the 80’s and entertaining for those who can certify he was “The King of Pop.”

Michael Jackson: “I love my family. But I just wanna do my own thing.”
