History

WCBE began as an educational tool of the Columbus City Schools, airing local shows one to five and half hours every weekday. WCBE evolved from a classroom-based station to a non-commercial, classical music station in 1967. In 1970, it became a charter member station of National Public Radio (NPR). Then, in 1990, the station transitioned from classical music to a unique Adult Album Alternative music format. Currently, WCBE is an NPR affiliate, broadcasting twenty four hours a day, seven days a week.
