Late Astronaut Honored At Private Service

Former astronauts, political and business leaders, and family and friends gathered in suburban Cincinnati this morning to mourn and celebrate the life of Neil Armstrong.The first man to walk on the moon died last Saturday at age 82. The service at a private club was closed, but a program stated that it included a Navy ceremonial guard, as well as comments by Armstrong's two sons and Republican U.S Senator Rob Portman of Ohio. A flyover by Navy fighter planes was planned at the end of the service, in tribute to Armstrong's Naval pilot service that included combat missions in Korea. No guest list was released but among the 10 former astronauts was John Glenn and Armstrong's fellow Apollo crew, including James Lovell, Eugene Cernan and William Anders. A national memorial service in Washington is expected within two weeks.
