Columbus Police Chief Kim Jacobs says she supports President Obama's gun control proposals.Jacobs says plans to ban assault rifles and high-capacity magazines are common sense solutions to gun violence in Columbus and elsewhere. Jacobs notes 75 of the city's 90 homicides last year involved a gun. Meeting with a group of Mayors at a speech by Vice President Joe Biden in Washington, Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman said yesterday public pressure will force federal lawmakers to adopt some restrictions. President Obama and Biden yesterday urged Congress to approve a ban on the sale of semi-automatic assault weapons, criminal and mental health background checks on anyone trying to purchase a gun, and reducing the number of bullets contained in gun magazines.
