Funeral services are scheduled March 9th for a former Cincinnati resident and B-25 bomber navigator in the World War II attack on mainland Japan.96-year-old U.S. Air Force Major Thomas Griffin died in a VA nursing home on Tuesday. His death leaves four surviving members of "Doolittle's Raiders." Griffin was among 80 volunteers for the April, 1942 bombing mission. It was credited with lifting American morale and shaking Japan in the aftermath of Pearl Harbor. Griffin parachuted over China and eluded capture, eventually returning to service on bombing runs from North Africa. His plane was shot down in 1943, and he spent nearly two years in a German prison camp.
