Committee Assignments For Charged Council Member Ended

Cleveland City Council member Zack Reed has been removed from his committee assignments following his arrest on drunken driving charges earlier this month. But Reed and Council President Martin Sweeney say under the Cleveland city charter, he will not be removed from his seat.

Sweeney says removing Reed from his committee assignments allows him the time to tend to his case. Judge Pinkey Carr recused herself from the case today, citing Reed's endorsement of her 2011 campaign as a conflict of interest. It is Reed's third drunken driving arrest.
