Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine says he'll provide grant money for new regional sexual assault coordinators to oversee direct and comprehensive services for survivors.DeWine says a recently completed survey shows 52 of Ohio's 88 counties do not offer such services.
The five year, 1.5 million dollar project focuses in its first year on expanding services to Crawford, Meigs, Perry and Wyandot counties. Lawmakers have introduced legislation charging a 100 dollar fee on sex offenders to fund rape crisis programs.Every two minutes someone in the United States is sexually assaulted, and the Centers for Disease Control estimates 743-thousand Ohio women are survivors of rape.
