State Panel Rejects Deer Season Change

The Ohio Wildlife Council has rejected a proposed change to deer-hunting season. The change, which would have been the second one this spring, proposed adding two days of open gun and bow-hunting in early January, followed by three days of muzzleloader hunting. Council members accused the Ohio Division of Wildlife of trying to push a Republican agenda. Nearly 30 Republicans in the Legislature were angered at changes earlier this spring that replaced two hunting weekends in December with two muzzleloader-only dates in October. They argued the shift reduced opportunities for hunters.
