Ohio Hosting Two Running Events This Weekend

The annual Komen Race for the Cure takes place tomorrow, starting on the Statehouse lawn.Organizers say 40 thousand people are expected to walk and run in the event, which raises money for breast cancer research. That is the lowest number of participants since 2007. Columbus police plan an increased presence in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings. Controversy surrounded the national Komen Race for the Cure Foundation last year when it decided to cut off funding for breast-cancer screenings at Planned Parenthood clinics. The resulting backlash prompted the organization to reverse the decision. And a record number of runners will hit the streets on Sunday for the Cleveland Marathon. An estimated 22-thousand people are signed up for the marathon, five-K run and kids' race.
