Physicians Panel Releases C-8 Monitoring Recommendations

A panel of doctors has released its recommended protocols for medical monitoring of residents exposed to the chemical C-8 used by a DuPont plant in Wood County. The panel was formed as part of a 2005 class-action settlement of a lawsuit that claimed water supplies in Ohio and West Virginia were contaminated with C-8 released from DuPont's Washington Works plant along the Ohio River. The chemical used to make teflon is linked to several health issues, including thyroid disease and testicular and kidney cancers. The medical panel's report addresses protocols for initial screening and diagnostic testing. The court-appointed director of medical monitoring will develop a plan and process to implement the screening and testing program.
