Jury Rules For Fired Pregnant Teacher

A jury has found the Cincinnati Archdiocese discriminated against a teacher fired after she became pregnant through artificial insemination. Christa Dias was fired from two schools in the Archdiocese in October 2010. The jury has awarded her more than 170 thousand dollars. Dias says she was fired because she was pregnant and unmarried, violating state and federal law. The archdiocese and the schools argued Dias was fired for violating her contract requiring compliance with Catholic church teachings. The church considers artificial insemination immoral.
