The controversial demolition of the Poindexter Village housing complex is underway. Crews began razing 25 of the 35 buildings on the site yesterday to make room for a senior-living complex and mixed-income housing. Neighbors had protested the demolition, claiming the Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority was destroying part of the city's African-American heritage. Columbus historic preservation officials say a group is reviewing the condition of 10 remaining buildings and will present options for preservation to CMHA by the end of the month.
