ODYS Meeting Benchmark Goals

A federal district judge in Columbus says Ohio's youth prison system has met another benchmark for improvement as a long-running lawsuit against the agency continues to wind down. The judge says the Department of Youth Services has proven it can identify and address problems through its processes for quality assurance and improvement. The judge will require monitoring of the agency's mental health services and its special management unit for especially troubled youths. He says many of the problems identified in a 2004 lawsuit and in a 2008 settlement have been successfully addressed.
