OSU Reports On Sample Handling Errors

Ohio State University has issued final reports detailing how test samples were mishandled last year at the university's medical center clinical lab. The incidents eventually led to a settlement with federal health authorities that included the replacement of the medical lab director. The university says in one incident a quality control sample was improperly sent to a laboratory at the Mayo Clinic by a student who had yet to receive full training in lab processes. The university says a misunderstanding about the relationship between university labs also caused samples to be wrongly sent from one lab to another. The incidents cost the university nearly 1 million dollars in legal fees and fines.
