Parole Board Considering Clemency Plea

Cuayhoga County prosecutors and defense attorneys are asking the Ohio Parole Board today to spare a death row inmate convicted of stabbing and killing a Cleveland woman in 1986 during a burglary at her home. They want the board to recommend the sentence for 44-year-old Billy Slagle be commuted to life in prison. Slagle's attorneys have long argued he deserves clemency because he has brain damage from alcohol and drug abuse and had a chaotic upbringing. Slagle is scheduled to die on August 7th. No word on when the board will rule.
