Warnings Posted At 3 Buckeye Lake Beaches

Toxic algae blooms found in Buckeye Lake last week have prompted state officials to post warnings for swimmers at three beaches. Tests of water samples detected a liver toxin produced by the algae. That led state officials to upgrade warning signs at Fairfield, Brooks Park and Crystal beaches cautioning against swimming or wading by seniors, young children and those with compromised immune systems. Toxic algae feeds on phosphorus from manure, sewage and fertilizers that wash into nearby streams.
