Acting Mount Vernon Police Chief Suspended

Acting Mount Vernon Police Chief George Hartz has been suspended for three days for conduct unbecoming an officer. Safety Director David Glass is not releasing any details. Hartz is the third police department employee — and second police chief — to be suspended this summer. Police Chief Michael Merrilees and Sergeant Kit Morgan were suspended in July after an internal investigation into their actions involving a former officer who has filed a federal lawsuit over his dismissal was launched.
