Switch To Semesters Hurts College Enrollment

Enrollment at Ohio colleges fell last year as schools switched to a semester schedule. Combined enrollment fell by 13 thousand students last year at the 17 schools that moved to semesters. Two-year colleges were hit especially hard and forced to cut budgets. Columbus State Community College expects to have the same number of students this year. Hocking College in Nelsonville anticipates a slight increase, and Ohio University Athens expects more freshmen and transfer students this year. Ohio State University expects 950 more students this year. The University of Cincinnati expects a record-high 43 thousand students this year.
