October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It is the most commonly diagnosed form of cancer, but not all Ohio women can afford the costs of the services that help detect it in time. The Breast and Cervical Cancer Project, part of the Healthy Ohio program, is working with some of the women most in-need to provide breast and cervical cancer screenings, diagnostic testing and case management services. Spokesperson Nicole Brennan says prevention is the key to a healthy outcome.
The project is available to women through 11 regional agencies. Eligible women must be uninsured, age 40 or older and within 200 percent of the federal poverty level. Most of the project's funding comes from the federal government.
