Court Dismisses Use Of Force Claims By County Jail Inmate

The 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals Thursday rejected a Franklin County jail inmate's claim that guards used excessive force when shocking him with a taster at the lock-up and later at a hospital. The allegations by Michael Reed are among several claims of unconstitutional use of tasers brought by county jail inmates in past years. Reed says guards improperly used a taser when trying to remove him from his cell for a medical appointment following a seizure in 2009, and later the same day at the hospital. A three-judge panel says guards responded appropriately and Reed's claims are not supported by video evidence. His attorney has yet to comment.
