Taxpayers Funding Columbus' Efforts To Host Political Conventions

Representatives of the cities of Columbus, Cincinnati and Cleveland went to Washington DC Monday to talk with the Republican National Committee members who will choose the site for their 2016 convention. Ohio Republican Party Chair Matt Borges says the meetings were an opportunity for the cities to find out what it will take to host the convention. Columbus' delegation also included representatives of the local tourism bureau called Experience Columbus, as well as Port Columbus and the Franklin County Convention Facilities Authority. The tourism bureau is funded in part with taxpayer money. Also on Monday, City Council approved giving the bureau 250 thousand dollars for work on the convention bid. The bureau's Brian Ross.

Bids are due to be submitted to the RNC by February 26th. The cities are also making a push to host the 2016 Democratic National Convention.
