PETA Calls For An End To Fishy Traditional At Perrysburg Basketball Games

An animal rights group says a high school in Ohio should put a stop to a tradition where students swallow live goldfish during a basketball game. Members of the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals say the tradition violates Ohio's anti-cruelty laws. Officials with the Perrysburg school district near Toledo say they've asked student leaders to discuss the issue and come up with a recommendation. The administration will ultimately make a decision. The stunt takes place when the Yellow Jackets' play their rival from across the river, Maumee High School. PETA says the goldfish swallowing is not only inhumane, but poses a health risk. The group says it got involved after getting complaints about the tradition from local residents.
