Vee Sanford scored on a layup with 3.8 seconds left to lift 11th-seeded Dayton over sixth-seeded Ohio State 60-59 Thursday in the NCAA tournament.
OSU's Aaron Craft guarded Sanford on the shot and missed his chance at the game winner at the end.
Ohio State was eliminated after one game for the third time in its 26 tournament appearances. Meanwhile, Siyani Chambers scored 11 points to lead 12th-seeded Harvard over fifth-seeded Cincinnati 61-57 Thursday.
UC coach Mick Cronin notes his Bearcats shot 37 percent from the field and failed to win a tournament game for the second straight year.
On the ice...Ryan Johansen scored late in the third period to lift the Columbus Blue Jackets over host Montreal 3-2 last night.
Derek MacKenzie and Brandon Dubinsky also scored for the Jackets, who have won four of their last six games. Prior to the game, the Jackets activated forward Jared Boll. He missed 45 games with a torn ankle tendon. And on the baseball diamond...Cincinnati Reds pitcher Aroldis Chapman underwent a 2 1/2-hour operation Thursday to repair broken facial bones after being hit in the face by a line drive in a spring training game on Wednesday.
Reds team physician Timothy Kremcheck says Chapman is expected to be out until late May.
Chapman was hit by a ball off the bat of Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez.
