Columbus Police Chief Kim Jacobs says the division is reviewing 3 thousand DNA test results from mid-2009 through last September because reporting procedures were not always followed. Jacobs says some reports given to investigators, prosecutors, defense attorneys and courts lacked a statistical weighting system. Jacobs says she learned of the situation last week, She says she can not rule out the possibility closed criminal cases could be reopened and lawsuits could be filed.
Jacobs says the division is hiring an independent DNA expert to audit crime lab procedures.
