Pro Medical Marijuana Rally Scheduled For This Weekend

Supporters of medical marijuana legalization will march in Cleveland this weekend as an effort to get a constitutional amendment before voters continues. Rob Ryan of the Ohio Chapter of NORML, the National Organization to Reform Marijuana Laws, says support is growing. He says recent polling data indicates the numbers have increased since the release of a 2009 University of Cincinnati "Ohio Poll" showing 73 percent of adults favor the idea.

The Ohio Cannabis Rights Amendment would create a state panel to license, regulate and control medical marijuana use. If approved, Ohio would join 21 other states and the District of Columbia in allowing use of medical marijuana under a doctor's recommendation. The Ohio Supreme Court will hold a forum on the issue on May 13th in Columbus. It will feature experts on marijuana legalization and its impact on public health, financial institutions, and taxation.
