Panel Cancels Hearing On Ohio Clean Energy Bill

A key Ohio  House committee has canceled its hearing on legislation halting the phase-in of  renewable energy and efficiency standards.

The House Public Utilities Committee had planned a vote Wednesday on the bill. The measure would pause the rollout of targets for how much renewable energy, such as solar and wind, Ohio utilities must generate by 2025. The committee chairman's office couldn't say when the meeting would be rescheduled, and it wasn't immediately clear why it was canceled. The bill's opponents have stepped up efforts this week. They aired a television ad, released research findings and lodged protests aimed at drawing the attention of lawmakers and the governor. Backers say Ohio's clean energy standards need to be modernized to account for such factors as increased U.S. shale-gas exploration.
