ODRC Denies AP Request For Certain Documents In Probe Of Botched Execution

Ohio is shielding interviews with 20 prison employees involved in the January execution of an inmate who repeatedly gasped and snorted as he was put to death with a never-before-tried drug method. The Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections says state attorneys interviewed the employees after the January 16th execution of Dennis McGuire. The agency denied a request by The Associated Press for the interviews, saying they are protected by attorney-client privilege and constitute trial preparation records. The agency also says McGuire's family threatened a civil rights lawsuit immediately after the execution. The state's actions shed more light on Ohio's response to the execution, which included boosting lethal dosages for future procedures.
