Today Is A Day To Raise Awareness Of PTSD
Today is National Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Awareness Day, which is designed to help military veterans and others recognize the symptoms and seek care. An estimated one in eight deployed military members will exhibit signs and symptoms. George Decker is with the National Center for PTSD.
Decker says symptoms include persistently distressing thoughts or dreams about a traumatic event; avoidance; or easily becoming irritable or angry.
Decker says vets should seek medical help if symptoms continue for a longer period of time.
