Portman Hints At Possible Presidential Run

Republican U.S. Senator Rob Portman of Ohio says he could end up making a 2016 presidential bid, depending on what happens with the field of candidates.

Portman says his focus is seeking Senate re-election in 2016, but if he doesn't see strong presidential candidates emerge who address his concerns about the economy and other issues, he will take a look at his own possibilities.   Questions about Portman's plans cropped up anew this week after the announcement that the Republican National Convention is likely headed to his home state, specifically Cleveland. He was asked about his plans Thursday in his regular conference call with Ohio reporters.   The former congressman and White House budget chief was among those considered as 2012 nominee Mitt Romney's running mate before he picked Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin.
