More People Suing Whirlpool Over Cancer Cluster
More people are suing Whirlpool Corporation alleging the company's former factory site in Clyde is responsible for a cancer cluster in the area. There are now 46 plaintiffs in the case, which is nearly double the number who originally filed suit. Federal and state health agencies have not been able to find the source of the cancer cluster. The plaintiffs accuse Whirlpool of dumping toxic sludge and releasing dangerous chemicals at the site. A Whirlpool spokesperson calls the allegations unfounded and irresponsible. She says company officials were unaware there were PCBs on the site when they sold it in 2008.
