Lack Of Funds Halts Rickenbacker House Renovations

mottsmilitarymuseum.org

Renovation work on the Columbus area home of World War I flying ace Eddie Rickenbacker has stopped because of a lack of funding. The home continues to be neglected despite a plan years ago to restore it and build a museum and community center. The city of Columbus purchased the property in 1998. State, county and private donors chipped in for work, but only the exterior of the house has been renovated, with the inside gutted and sealed from the weather. A member of the board formed in the early 2000s to oversee the project says there wasn't enough money to continue renovation work. The Rickenbacker house has been designated a national historic landmark.
