A Madison County judge has sentenced a former Columbus resident to five years probation and six months of house arrest for hitting a West Jefferson police officer with a pickup truck last year. 39-year-old James Shannon III was convicted of leading officers on a chase in May of last year before striking officer Matt Stevers, who sustained minor injuries. The chase happened after Shannon crashed into several vehicles on Columbus' far West side.
