An organization representing state highway patrol troopers has withdrawn its endorsement of Democratic gubernatorial candidate Ed FitzGerald while declining to back Republican incumbent John Kasich. The decision by the group called Troopers for a Safer Ohio comes amid revelations FitzGerald lacked a permanent driver's license for a decade. Campaign spokesperson Lauren Hitt says the driver's license issue was fully vetted during FitzGerald's endorsement interview. Hitt says she expects unionized police and firefighters who've endorsed FitzGerald will still support him, after Kasich supported limits on public employee unions and called a Columbus police officer an "idiot." Troopers for a Safer Ohio is the lobbying wing of the Ohio Troopers Coalition.
