State prison officials say the convicted Chardon High School shooter used a ladder crafted from items in a closet to escape from the Allen Correctional Institution near Lima in September. A report shared with the families of the victims of T.J. Lane says he used an unlocked crawl space to build the ladder and escape. Lane and two others also escaped thanks in part to a surveillance camera that was not working properly.
