Primaries Likely In Columbus Mayoral, City Council, School Board Races

It appears there will be primary races in May for Columbus Mayor and several City Council and City School Board seats. Republican Terry Boyd, Democrats Andy Ginther and Zach Scott, and James Ragland - a former aid to former City Council member Charleta Tavares - filed petitions in the mayoral race yesterday. The two highest vote getters in the non-partisan race will square off in November. 14 candidates filed to run for five City Council seats. Democratic incumbent appointees Zach Klein, Michelle Mills, Jaiza Page, and Shannon Hardin and Democratic candidate Mike Stinziano - who is running for Ginther's seat - will face Republicans Ashley Wnek, Dimitrious Stanley, Ibrahima Sow, Besa Sharrah and Joshua Jaffe. The three other Democrats are Kiwan Lawson, Will Petrik and Doyline Williams. Ten candidates filed petitions to run for four seats on the Columbus School Board. Eight would move on to the November election. Incumbent Democrats Gary Baker, Shawna Gibbs and Mary Jo Hudson face Democrat Eric Brown and Republicans Robert  Sharrah, James Hunter and Brian Bainbridge. Other candidates include Ben Tyson, Tina Pierce and Bernadine Kennedy Kent. The Franklin County Board of Elections must certify the signatures on the candidates' petitions.
