A former Ohio National Guard member in West Lafayette who says his pet ducks help relieve his post-traumatic stress disorder and depression is appealing his conviction for violating a village ban on keeping the animals. Darin Welker was convicted of a minor misdemeanor and fined 50 dollars for keeping 14 ducks at his home. Welker served in Iraq. His attorney argues Welker has a medical need and was wrongly convicted. A court filing says the ducks are registered as support animals and are effective in helping Welker.
