Deputy: Suspects In Slaying Of NE Ohio Couple Say Robbery Was Motive

Ohio Attorney General's Office

Tuscarawas County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Orvis Campbell says two men accused of shooting and then burning a Strasburg couple are admitting they targeted them for robbery.

Campbell says 29-year-old Robert Clark delivered a repaired lawn mower to Doyle and Lillian Chumney prior to taking them from their home and killing them on January 22nd.  He says Clark and 21-year-old Jeffery Stewart both confessed to robbing the Chumneys and then shooting them inside their car on a rural Coshocton County road.  Campbell says the murders were premeditated because Clark had just purchased the gas can used to burn the couple.
