An annual report by the Ohio Attorney General's office on capital punishment shows three people were sentenced to die last year, bringing the total number under Ohio's 1981 law to 323 sentences. The report says 53 inmates have been executed, 19 have had their sentences reduced, and 26 have died from suicide or natural causes. Ohio has 146 active death penalty cases. Death sentences are increasingly rare as prosecutors file fewer cases and juries choose the option of life without parole. No executions are scheduled this year.
