City Says Site Of Four-Alarm Fire Was Deemed Unsafe Last Fall

Columbus Dispatch

Columbus city inspectors last fall determined the recycling facility where a four-alarm fire broke out last Friday was unsafe. Inspectors last November determined a building at the Phoenix Recycling complex was unsafe and the required repairs had not been made. City documents also show the business has been operating without the proper zoning or permit to run a salvage yard for at least three years.  Inspectors are investigating whether there are any code violations at the site. The business was cited for two violations in 2012 that were both resolved a month later.  The fire broke caused 8 million dollars in damage. The cause remains under investigation.
