School Levy Requests Do Well

Five of six Central Ohio school levies were approved yesterday, but the lone failure looms large for Buckeye Lake residents.

55 percent of voters rejected the Walnut Township school district operations levy, which could push the troubled district closer to fiscal emergency.  School officials have prepared a plan for the 2015-16 school year that cuts teachers, custodians and a librarian, and freezes pay for all employees. However, they will also make one more appeal to voters later this year. Meanwhile, voters in the Big Walnut school district in Delaware County approved a five year substitute levy.  Voters in Heath, Southwest Licking and North Fork districts in Licking county all approved replacement levies.  And Logan Elm district voters renewed a levy and approved a 1 percent income tax for operations. More than 90 districts across the state asked voters for help with levies. And as StateImpact Ohio’s Mark Urycki reports, most of them were approved.
