University Of Akron's Rebranding Effort Criticized By Other Schools
The University of Akron is adding the branding tag-line "Ohio's Polytechnic University" to its name. The school spent more than 100 thousand dollars with several marketing firms to come up with the tagline. A group of presidents from other northeast Ohio universities, including Kent State and Youngstown State, wrote an op-ed in the "Akron Beacon Journal" that said universities have to stop trying to compete with each other and must work together in order to thrive. University officials say they will not release to the public the marketing reports from the re-branding research because they contain trade secrets.
