Damage From Tanker Crash Forcing Replacement Of Bridge Over West Outerbelt

The Ohio Department of Transportation plans to replace the I-70 bridge over I-270 on the West side badly damaged yesterday when an overturned tanker truck carrying ethanol caught fire and forced closures. The flames cracked the concrete and compromised structural steel. Officials anticipate replacement will take several weeks and cost up to 1 million dollars. ODOT hopes to start using some westbound lanes as eastbound lanes by midday Friday.  Police say the driver, 50-year-old Charles Lackins, sustained minor injuries and was cited for failure to control and transporting a hazardous load within city limits. Major Franklin County roadways have been closed seven times since 2009 because of hazardous materials problems.
