Youngstown Schools Ask Judge To Block State Takeover

Representatives of the Youngstown city schools are asking a judge to delay the implementation of a state law giving the state control of the district. The measure passed quickly by the Ohio Legislature just before its summer recess was kept secret from the public until being pushed through both chambers in a single day. Without the injunction, the legislation will take effect next month, with a new CEO appointed before the end of the year who would have sweeping power to reshape the troubled district.
