March Of Dimes Gives Columbus Failing Grade For Premature Births

A new report by the March of Dimes gives the city of Columbus a failing grade when it comes to the birth rate of premature babies. In its latest annual report card, the organization says the preterm birth rate in Columbus is 11.6  percent. Cincinnati and Cleveland also received "f" grades. The state and the nation receive an overall grade of "C."  The national preterm birth rate is 9.6 percent. The report says the preterm birth rate among African-Americans in Ohio is 14 percent - the highest in the nation. The rate for white babies is 9.6 percent. Ohio’s overall rate is 10.3 percent.
