Feds: About 62K Ohioans Have Picked Marketplace Health Plans

Federal officials say roughly 62,000 Ohioans have selected health plans through the federal marketplace, as an important deadline looms.

People who want their health coverage to start at the first of the year need to apply for coverage by Tuesday. Signing up after that date means coverage starts in February. Current customers who take no action will be automatically renewed. Ohio is one of 38 states that use the federal health insurance marketplace created by President Barack Obama's health law. People can enroll in coverage through the website, HealthCare.gov. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services says that as of Dec. 5, 62,181 Ohioans have selected plans. This includes both new consumers and those returning to shop for private health insurance plans. Open enrollment ends Jan. 31.
