Knox County Sheriff's deputies say a Danville police officer was shot and killed late last night. The body of Officer Thomas Cottrel was found outside the village municipal building. Police also say his cruiser was stolen. Police have arrested Herschel Ray Jones in connection with the slaying. He was arrested after a woman told dispatchers officers were in danger because Jones, her ex-boyfriend, had left her home armed and was looking to kill an officer
