ODRC Reinstates Parole Officer Over Handling Of Suspect In Cop's Death

Danville Police

The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections has reinstated a parole officer after determining he did not violate policies or procedures while supervising a former inmate accused of killing a Danville police officer. William Baer was placed on leave after 32-year-old Herschel Ray Jones III was arrested in the mid-January shooting of officer Thomas Cottrell. Jones has pleaded not guilty. Jones' sister tried to call his parole officer on January 1st to warn him about his violent tendencies. The department determined Jones' sister mistakenly called local probation services.
