Strategies to end homelessness in central Ohio are working, but the number of individuals and families using shelters continues to climb. That's according to the Community Shelter Board's latest assessment for Columbus and Franklin County. CSB Executive Director Michelle Heritage.
Heritage says there are encouraging signs the CSB's efforts are working.
The new service model has helped reduce repeat shelter stays from 3.4 instances per year to 1.5. Franklin County Commissioner Marilyn Brown will lead a task force to identify, improve and create services to keep families in their homes. The CSB is also working to develop more affordable housing with the help of a 1.5 million-dollar grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
